FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Funds Available in Douglas County
The Federal Emergency Management Agency Emergency Food and Shelter Program has released $26,476 for eligible Douglas County Local Relief Organizations. The Douglas County FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Committee is soliciting applications from eligible agencies serving vulnerable populations for emergency food and shelter funding. All funds must be expended for eligible purposes.
The selection of Douglas County was made by a national board that is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security=s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, the Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way of America. A Local Board comprised of the Red Cross, United Way, Salvation Army, Douglas County Ministerial Association, a person representing people who have been homeless or are homeless, Douglas County and Catholic Charities Bureau will review applications and recommend funding by FEMA of eligible local relief organizations. Eligible organizations must be private voluntary not for profits or units of government, have an accounting system, practice non discrimination, have a demonstrated capacity to deliver emergency food and shelter programs and if a private voluntary organization, have a volunteer board of directors.
Local eligible agencies are urged to apply by sending a letter clearly and comprehensively detailing the needs they meet and the number of people they serve with their emergency and shelter programs and the amount of funding requested from the FEMA program. Applications should be mailed to or hand delivered to:

Deadline for receiving this letter of application is March 26, 2008. Applications received after that date will not be considered for funding in Phase 26 of the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program in 2008.
